Amazing way to gradually increase my vocabulary. Beginner friendly, but doesn't sacrifice breadth so it'll be useful for a long time. Plan on getting your grammar elsewhere, but the way this app has expanded my vocabulary has made learning from other sources much quicker. I love that it makes you practice de vs het nouns automatically. Volume is a little inconsistent both between languages and between nouns and verbs in the Dutch version.

Regretfully I switched to the new version of the app and it is a disaster. It crashes constantly and not all letters show up making it impossible to answer the questions. I have a 695 day streak but will be switching to another app because the new version is virtually unusable. The old app worked fine and was fun to use. The new one is nothing but aggravation and frustration. Do yourself a favor and find another language learning app that works well. The last "fix" made it even worse.

This is quite possibly the only app that has successfully gamified language learning. There's no typing, which in other apps makes you feel like you're taking a test rather than playing a game. Instead, everything is movement. You're either dragging pictures to their corresponding target words (and vice versa), dragging letters to blanks in a hangman-style game, or swiping through letters in a word-search game. The best feature that makes Drops effective is the emphasis on images rather than your native language to translate the words, much like you learned your first language as a child (if an image is ambiguous, you can tap it to display the word in your native language). Cons? Not much, other than it doesn't really teach grammar, but I don't think the app was intended for that. It's meant for expanding your vocabulary as a compliment to other apps & courses. I'm currently using Duolingo for grammar and Drops for vocab. Another potential con is that the prices are a bit steep; however, I was offered a discount on the lifetime subscription for $32. If you're offered a similar deal, take it. It's worth it.
